Launch X431 V+ vs. V Pro: Key Differences & Quick Recommendation

V+ and V Pro have a lot in common since they share the same software and hardware. But, there are four key differences that set them apart:

  • Topology map: V+ introduced the awesome Topology Mapping feature in May 2023. You can enjoy this feature for free by updating your scanners to V 7.00.012. V Pro doesn’t have this function.
  • Heavy-duty truck supported: V+ can handle 24V trucks when combined with the HD module. This cool feature is not available on V Pro.
  • Screen size: V+ has a generous 10.1″ screen, while V Pro has an 8″ screen. So, if you prefer a larger display, V+ is the way to go!
  • Battery capacity: V+ boasts a powerful 7,000mAh battery, providing longer usage time. On the other hand, V’s battery capacity is 5,000mAh.

So here is my quick recommendation:

Want to save up tp $300? Get Launch X431 V Pro! No major miss-outs, I promise.

Prefer big 10.1″ screen, topology map, or 24V trucks support? Launch X431 V+ is your go-to option!

Performance

Both V Pro and V+ are incredibly powerful products that cater to advanced DIYers and professional mechanics alike. No matter your skill level, they’ve got you covered with all the necessary functions.

Here’s a quick rundown of the significant features they share:

  • Diagnostics functions: Full-system diagnostics, full-system live data (graph and number).
  • Active tests for all systems
  • 37+ Service functions: ABS Bleeding, Oil reset, EPB reset, Key Programming.
  • Relearn functions: Throttle relearn, Crankshaft relearn, and Transmission relearn.
  • and ECU coding

The best part? V Pro and V+ support these functions for most car brands. You’ll rarely see the “This function is not available” message when using these two scanners.

On top of that, they boast strong hardware, ensuring you never have to wait long for tasks like active tests and full-system scans. Smooth and speedy, that’s the experience you’ll get.

The only difference between them is the Topology Map.

It’s an exclusive feature on V+ introduced in May 2023. With this colorful map, you can have a full view of your car’s module system, making problem-solving a breeze.

This way, you can quickly determine where to start to find out your car problems.

So, whether you choose V Pro or V+, you’re getting a reliable and feature-packed scanner.

Vehicle Coverage

Both V Pro and V+ are real winners when it comes to coverage. They’ve outperformed all the scanners I’ve used so far.

The best part is that they can handle both OBD2 and OBD1 vehicles, which means they’ve got a 99% of the cars I work with covered.

Now, here’s where V+ has a slight advantage. It’s equipped to handle heavy-duty trucks, which is a fantastic feature. But, to access this function, you’ll need to grab the HD module separately. The cost for the HD module is about $900.

Design & Hardware

The main difference between V Pro and V+ is the screen and battery.

V+ really shines with its generous 10.1-inch screen, giving you a clear view of live data and the topology map.

Plus, as a huge bonus, it packs a powerful 7,000mAh battery that’ll easily last you a whole day of work without worrying about recharging.

On the other hand, X431 V Pro comes with a slightly smaller 8-inch screen and a 5,000mAh battery. Still decent, but not as impressive as V+.

Both V Pro and V+ offer a modest 32GB of memory. However, don’t worry if you need more space, you can easily swap the 32GB card for a larger 128GB one to expand the memory.

So, if you want a larger screen and more battery power, V+ is the way to go. But if you’re okay with something more compact, V Pro still does a great job.

After-sales service

No matter which one you choose: V Pro or V+, you’ll be protected for 5 years from the date of purchase!

That’s something impressive because no other brand out there offers such extended protection. Most of them stop at 1 or 2 years!

Not just that, you’ll also enjoy a 2-year free update. So during those two years, you’ll receive all the latest goodies without any extra cost.

And don’t worry, even after the free update period ends, you can still use most of the regular functions (just not ECU coding).

But, if you want access to the latest car models and their support, you can opt for the subscription at $399/year. It’s totally up to you!

Recommendations

Honestly, when it comes to performance and hardware, V Pro and V+ are nearly identical.

So here’s what I suggest – if you want to save some bucks, just go ahead and get V Pro.

You’ll save up to $300 compared to V+, and trust me, you won’t be missing out on much!

But if a massive 10.1″ screen and the cool topology map appeal to you, then V+ is your pick. It’s your go-to choice for those awesome features.
