Autel MX808 and MK808 are completely identical. However, when it comes to comparing the MX808, MK808, and MP808, there are some key distinctions to consider. If you’re short on time, here’s a quick rundown of the differences:

• Service functions: Both the Autel MX808 and MK808 offer 28 service functions. The enhanced MP808 goes a step further, including 30 service functions.
• Guided functions: This is a handy feature only found in the MP808. It gives you step-by-step instructions for VAG cars.
• ECU coding: If you’re into customizing your car or adapting new parts, the MP808 lets you do this with ECU coding. Unfortunately, the MX808 and MK808 don’t have this feature.
• Updates: Autel MX808 and MK808 come with one year of free updates, while the MP808 gives you two years. But keep in mind, renewing updates for the MX808 and MK808 costs $125 per year, while for the MP808, it’s much pricier at $350 per year.

So, if you want ECU coding and two years of free updates, go for the MP808. 

On the other hand, if you have a tighter budget and only need essential features like active tests, the MX808 and MK808 are better-suited options.

Autel MX808 vs. MK808 vs. MP808: Detailed comparison

Performance

In this part, I can state that Autel MX808, MK808, and MP808 have a bunch of similar functions. If you’re a DIYer or a home mechanic, these scan tools can handle most of the important stuff you need. For example:

• Scan all trouble codes on all car’s system
• Read live data in 2 formats: text and graph
• Perform active tests on any system

And there’s another thing that’s almost the same in all three tools: service functions. The Autel MX808 and MK808 come with 28 of these functions, while the MP808 adds two more, making it 30. 

But personally, I don’t think this small difference really matters much because all three, MX808, MK808, and MP808 share essential functions for maintenance services:

• Key programming
• Injector coding
• Gear relearn
• Cam/crankshaft relearn, etc.

So, that’s what they all have in common

Now, let’s talk about what the Autel MP808 can do that the MX808 and MK808 can’t.

The first is the ECU coding function, an important feature for you to adapt new parts or customize your car. And this feature can work well on multiple vehicles.

• Online coding: for BMW, Porsche, VW, Nissan, Infiniti, Hyundai, etc.
• Offline coding/adaptation: for Ford, Mazda, Jaguar, Vauxhall, Opel, etc.
• Refresh hidden features: for BMW, VW, Audi, Skoda, etc.

MP808 also has a helpful feature called the Guided function for VAG cars. It saves you from the trouble of finding special numbers and codes. Plus, it gives you clear instructions when you’re doing maintenance on your car.

Vehicle Coverage

Autel MX808, MK808, and MP808 all work with regular cars, trucks, and SUVs that follow the OBD2 standards.

Moreover, all three of these scanners support AutoAuth for newer FCA vehicles made after 2017. The neat thing is, you don’t need any special adapter for FCA vehicles. You just need to sign up for an account, log in on the scanner, and you’re all set to diagnose FCA vehicles.

I tried these scanners on a bunch of different cars, and they did a great job. Here are some examples:

Since I tested them on different types of cars, I’m pretty sure these three scanners can handle lots of different car models.

Design & Hardware

The design and hardware of these three scanners are completely alike.

Talking about how fast they are, when I used and tested them, I found that they work really quickly and smoothly. This is because they are equipped with a quad-core processor and a decent amount of memory (4 GB of RAM). 

These three scanners also have more space to store stuff, about 64GB, so you can keep live data and diagnostic reports for later use.

Besides, their screen is a regular size, about 7 inches, and it is a touchscreen. Personally, I think looking at the live data on this screen is pretty nice. 

Lastly, all three scanners have a battery that can last a while (5,000mAh). Besides, you have to connect them with an OBD2 cable to make them work.

After-sales service

Autel MX808 and MK808 offer you a year of updates for free. After that, you’ll need to pay $125 each year to keep things updated. 

Autel MP808 goes a step further by offering 2 years of free updates. But, when those 2 years are up, the cost to keep updating is higher, hitting $350 per year. This is because the MP808 has something special called ECU coding.

Now, here’s something all three scanners share: warranty and customer support. Autel backs them all up with a 1-year warranty.

Speaking of customer support, Autel is pretty good at that too. They’ve been quick to respond to my email questions, usually within about 24 hours. Plus, if you opt for Autel MX808, the support is even better since it’s the US version.

Recommendations

Honestly, I don’t really see a lot of differences between these scanners, except for the ECU coding thing.

So, if you’re kind of stuck and not sure what to pick, here’s what I’d recommend:

Need ECU coding and longer time with free updates? Then the Autel MP808 is your match.

If you want an affordable scanner for basic car diagnostics and maintenance, either Autel MX808 or MK808 will work well.
