What Does The Chevrolet P1187 Code Mean?

Engine runtime over 30 minutes; and the PCM detected the Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor was more than 306ºF for 4.5 seconds. The ECT and EOT sensors should be within a few degrees after sitting overnight.

What Are The Potential Causes Of The Chevrolet P1187 Code?

  • EOT sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
  • EOT sensor is damaged or it has failed (possible short circuit)
  • PCM has failed
