My First-hand Experiences:

1. Vehicle Coverage:

AUTOPHIX 7150's vehicle coverage

I have tried this Ford scanner on 12 different cars and trucks:

  • 2001 Ford Taurus
  • 2021 Lincoln Corsair
  • 2008 Ford Ranger
  • 2002 F250
  • 2005 Mercury Mountaineer
  • 2008 F350 truck
  • 2003 Ford E-350
  • 2009 Lincoln Mks
  • 2003 Ford F350
  • 2011 Ford F150
  • 2008 Ford F250
  • 2016 Ford Expedition Platinum

In fact, AUTOPHIX 7150 can not support all. This scanner could not work on the 2021 Lincoln Corsair and 2005 Mercury Mountaineer.

That said, the vehicle coverage is incomplete.

So, I recommend doing a compatibility check before purchasing. To do that,

You must contain your VIN in the message; they will do a check-up and respond within 24 hours.

2. Ease Of Use:

Are you new to scan tools?

Don’t worry.

I can confirm that AUTOPHIX 1750 is among the easiest-to-use scanners. Its menu layout is super simple, which displays all essential functions.

AUTOPHIX 7150's easy menu layout
This Ford scanner will instruct every step, and explain everything on the screen. Great for any beginner!

Thus, AUTOPHIX 7150 is a huge time saver. It only takes under 1 minute to diagnose the whole vehicle. If your goal is to reduce time and money spent at repair shops, this full-system Ford scan tool is the way to go!

However, its short cable (about 2ft) is a no for me; I can’t lean back comfortably while using the scanner; 5ft would be a better length.

The data download process also gets me messed up. I have to use software to extract the 7z files, then move and save files on my laptop—too complex.

3. Functionality and Accuracy:

The special “For Ford” advanced functions:

My favorite AUTOPHIX 7150’s function must be the “For Ford”.  It is ONE-OF-A-KIND.

Here’s all you have to do:

Step 1: Choose “For Ford” on the menu layout.

Step 2: Let AUTOPHIX 7150 diagnose your Ford vehicles’ ins and outs.

AUTOPHIX 7150's "For Ford" Function

Few affordable-price OBD2 scanners can read things like the Parking Aid or Powertrain Control Module.  But this under-$150 tool can!

If you are a novice, you must feel strange with error codes and hate searching for everything. Then you must love AUTOPHIX 7150. Seriously, this Ford scanner will give you the code and explanation directly. You do not need to waste time on an online OBD codes look-up.

For instance, I just did a “For Ford” scan on a 2001 Ford Taurus this morning. And AUTOPHIX 7150 showed me:

AUTOPHIX 7150 shows code and description.
AUROPHIX 7150 showed the “P1804” code with the definition “4WD (Four Wheel Drive) High Indicator Circuit Fault”.

I discovered that the Transmission 4-Wheel Drive High Indicator harness was shorted. After fixing the issue, I cleared the code and reset the scanner; the erased code disappeared immediately.

Needless to say, AUTOPHIX 7150 is all you need to know what is going on with your Ford vehicles. And you do not need to have a broad knowledge of technical scanners.

Sufficient OBD-II  and Reset Functions:
AUTOPHIX 7150 helps you with these tasks.

Like other OBD-II scanners, AUTOPHIX 7150 can help troubleshoot vehicle problems, determine the cause of the engine light, read datastream, etc.

The manufacturer claims that the diagnostic accuracy is 100%. So let me be clear about this, it’s excellent, but not perfect.  Just 95%, I mean.

I haven’t seen any wrong codes through tests, but ghost codes appeared two times. Last week when I used AUTOPHIX 1750 on a 2008 Ford Ranger, it kept saying that there was an “ignition problem”, but nothing was wrong when I checked.

When it comes to reset (advanced) functions, AUTOPHIX 7150 will satisfy your diagnostics needs with a wide range of features.

You can:

  • Maintain proper tire pressure with TPMS reset
  • Track your vehicles’ battery health with perfect Vehicle Battery Analysis,
  • Remove trapped air with ABS Bleeding,
  • Filter diesel particles, and ensure your DPF’s longevity with DPF regeneration,
  • Test car’s emission control for state emission tests with I/M Readiness,
  • etc.

Really cool, right?

All these functions perform well during my tests.

However, that doesn’t mean all functions can work on your cars. Sad to say that features are limited based on vehicles.

For example, I have tested the ABS Bleeding functions on a 2019 Ford Ranger and a 2005 Ford F150. ABS Bleeding worked well on the 2009 Ford Ranger but was useless on the F150.

Editorial notes:

Before using, make sure that your scanner has the latest update. Otherwise, it will not run properly.

You need to download an update package.

Here’s the link to get the package.

The update process is pretty straightforward. It’s in the user manual.

Thus, some customers purchase the product and realize Autophix 7150 does not support their vehicles.

“I do not really like this there is a lot of things it is not equipped with. And only can us it on a Ford and I have 3 other cars That I cannot use it on” – J. Riggs

That’s why it is super important to check compatibility before buying.

Alternatives:

AUTOPHIX 7150 may not satisfy you with its design or functions. Then consider these two more convenient and advanced alternatives:

#1 OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner

OBDLink MX+ will turn your devices into a feature-rich scanner. Short cable or small screen won’t be a problem anymore.

This Bluetooth scanner can work excellently with FORscan on Windows laptops or the OBDLink app on iPhones or Android smartphones.

If AUTOPHIX 7150 is among the fastest, then OBDLink MX+ must be the safest of all Ford scan tools, with its hacker-proof and sleep mode.

Thus, the data can be directly downloaded and uploaded to your phone without going through complex steps like AUTOPHIX 7150.

#2 XTOOL D7

AUTOPHIX 7150 has impressive functions? Yes.

But if you are a professional and those aren’t enough, go for XTOOL D7.

XTOOL D7 becomes AUTOPHIX 7150’s alternative for two reasons.

Firstly, this scanner has more special functions. You can work like a pro with its  Active Tests, Fuel Trim Reset, key programming, etc.

Secondly, XTOOL is king when it comes to customer support, which is AUTOPHIX’s lack. XTOOL D7 receives 4.5 stars for tech support on Amazon!
